“For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, ‘Anyone who believes in Him will never be put to shame.’ For there is no difference between Jew & Gentile —the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on Him, for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ How, then, can they call on the one in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’” Romans 10:10-15
God placed Haiti on my heart many years ago; however, I never knew how it would happen. I thought that God was sending me into Haiti to rescue and save a lost country, that it was going to be because of my efforts that their world would be changed. Oh, was I wrong! God rocked my world through my trips to Haiti. I learned the power of unconditional love and communication. The language barrier did not matter; the Love of Christ is universal and speaks through each of us. I learned the joy in the curiosity of a child who had never held a smart phone. I learned the power of generosity through the gift of rubber bands that the little girl was wearing as her bracelets. It is not about me or what I bring; it is what God wants to do through our team.
Last year my testimony was forever changed by the comment of a man in the congregation. For that, my perspective of my past and the hope for my future are grounded more in prayer than ever before. We are not the Americans coming in to save them; we are the vessels of God coming to collect lost souls. It is about changing lives in the name of Jesus. It is about crushing perceptions and boundaries that have been put in place on both sides. Just as much as God has used me to impact them, they have impacted my ife a hundredfold. Through His testimony that He has now placed in me, my life will never be the same. I could not imagine never going back or being a part of a mission’s team. I pray that, one day, God will allow me to make this His full time mission through me.
Application: As people who live for Christ, we are all missionaries, and we are all part of full time ministry. Our lives are a mission field: where we work, where we live, and how we spend our free time. A simple smile, a helpful hand, or a listening ear, backed with the love of God and the direction of the Spirit, can change lives and plant seeds into the people around you. My beautiful friends, you are all missionaries on the mission field of life.
Prayer: I pray that God uses you today, that you are sensitive to the direction of Holy Spirit, and that you are able to share the love of God on your mission field called Life.
