“For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” John 3:16
You may be thinking, what does this Scripture have to do with overflow? The answer is…Everything! As we just read, God so loved the world that he gave. He was able to give that much because He is love. As a result, love overflows.
When I read this Scripture, I am deeply challenged, because if we are being honest, a lot of times love is not what overflows from us. Greed, jealousy, hate, and selfishness are more common than love. However, as we are participating in a time of prayer and fasting, I am encouraged that I can refocus, realign, and make sure that Love is what overflows. As followers of Jesus, we need to constantly examine ourselves and ask what is our overflow.
Once we do that, we will be able to provide the world the main thing that is lacking…Love.
In a time of so much division and polarization, we as followers of Jesus need to be the Love providers of society. Therefore, it becomes paramount that we examine ourselves on a daily basis to make sure Love is what is coming out of us. There is no point in professing Christ if our overflow is not Love.
Question: What is your overflow producing?
Challenge: Take the time to really examine yourself. From your thoughts, your actions, your social media postings, etc., and ask yourself, is Love really overflowing? If not, then ask Holy Spirit to help you in changing that. Write down practical steps that you will take in making sure Love is what overflows out of your life.
Prayer: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24)
