"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.” Luke 4:18 (NIV)
In the previous verse, Jesus, using a prophecy of the prophet Isaiah, describes the reason of why He was present. Before this happened, and after being baptized by John in the Jordan River, Jesus was led by the spirit into the wilderness where He fasted for 40 Days. In this period, He was also tempted by the Devil (read Luke Chapter 4). Upon His return from this process, in the power of the Holy Spirit, He entered the temple and made a statement where He basically exposed the sense of His coming to Earth. This time, I'm going to use this powerful story to talk about how to run with the vision, understanding that the vision is nothing more than God's spiritual action plan to fulfill its mission. As followers of Jesus, we are His representatives (ambassadors), and we have also been called to bring the good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and to console the afflicted. It is important to understand that God is waiting for action on our part, and it is for that reason that, today, you have found yourself reading this devotional. God is giving you the opportunity to make a difference by being the agent of change that those around you need. Every day, remember that our example is a powerful weapon in the hands of God and that you and I are the Bible that many will read and therefore be saved.
Question: How can I be the agent of change that God expects me to be?
Challenge: As a part of this House, we must keep at the forefront of our minds the fact that God has given us a clear vision of unconditional love, acceptance, and forgiveness that needs to be implemented. For more than 30 years, the DNA of our church has transformed the heart of whole families, all because people like you took the challenge of running with the vision as taught by the Prophet Habakkuk when he said, "Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it." In addition to our general vision, each year we receive the annual Vision (theme) with the sole purpose of fulfilling God's plan for our church and community. I believe that this is a beautiful time to put our efforts and skills into God's hands and let Him use us to make a difference in our homes, schools, and workplaces.
Prayer: God, give me the ability to be Your representative in my community. Give me the words and opportunity to run with the plan of action You have given us as a church. Lord, this year I want it to be a different year for me; use me as You have never before and help me to be an active member who represents the vision of this House.
