DAY 5: Tune In, Hear God
“Whoever has ears, let them hear... But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.” - Matthew 13:9, 16 (NIV)
When Jesus declares the Kingdom of God is at hand, He is offering much more than most of us realize. Jesus is declaring that there is a way of seeing reality, a way of seeing and knowing God; which we had not previously been aware of. A modern day parable that Jesus might have used is a radio. All around us right now are radio waves. They fill the atmosphere, completely saturating the space both in and around us. While we can’t perceive them with our eyes and ears or touch and taste them, they are still very much a reality. The fact that we can’t observe them through our senses, doesn’t change the reality that they are present. In the same way, the Kingdom of God is a reality that exists in and around us. God’s presence and power saturates the atmosphere. Yet, like a radio, if we don’t have a receiver then sickness, sin and sorrow seem to be unaffected. Like the radio, we must learn to tune into the frequency that God is broadcasting on, to hear Him and become aware of His Kingdom. Like the radio, we must plug in to Him as our source of power to work. Jesus said that His sheep hear His voice. You have “ears to hear” as a new creation.
Question: What are the distractions in your life that are keeping you from hearing God’s voice?
Challenge: Through this time of fasting and praying, spend a few minutes each day throughout the next week plugging into the Source and intentionally tuning out the distractions and tuning into what God is saying.
